I got an email the other day from a friend and her boy who has a
killdeer nesting on a gravel park strip near their home. I told them a
bit about killdeer and said probably the best thing to do was to just
watch and hope for the best. Below is his reply. I thought it
hilarious!

Hi Ann, this is Connor, thank's for the bird information. Guess what the
dad
bird did to us. The first time we went to the nest the dad bird lured us

away by walking 10 ft. in front of us for about five minutes. We turned
around and started walking back to the nest and he flew over us back to
the
nest. When we were almost half way there he flew over us again with
something in his beak then he droped it in the gutter. I went to look at
it
and guess what, it was a candy rapper!!! My dad said the bird was smart
enough to know he could lure a stupid human away from anything with a
piece
of candy.

Thanks again, Connor
