Any suggestions or recommendations on carrying a spotting scope while hiking? I suppose that there is a compromise between packing the scope and tripod in a comfortable backpack and the speedy deployment of carrying the assembled scope & tripod on your shoulder, ready for instant deployment (which is my normal method of hiking). Any suggestions on backpacks or other carrying equipment? The number of “mystery birds” that I have seen this year went down dramatically after I bought a spotting scope, but the cost has been watching birds fly away while I try to quickly deploy the scope, or the time delay in putting down the scope so that I can use two hands to focus my binoculars on a bird that is rapidly transiting the area.
Thanks.
