Hello all and happy holidays!
Well, I ventured to Lee Kay Ponds this afternoon. I was there from about 1:30-2:30. In short, no Western Gull. I wouldn't necessarily take this as a sign that the bird is gone as most of the reports have come from the morning (did anybody see it this morning?). I will most likely venture out there again tomorrow morning. I did look at the west pond as well as the main pond at Lee Kay.
Birds that were seen:
Ring-billed Gull (that was the most bountious gull there, not surprisingly)
Herring Gulls (a smattering here and there)
I believe a first winter Thayer's Gull (I have not seen a first winter before so cannot be completely sure, but if it was it is the first time I can say that a first winter bird is truly beautiful - the brown was a great color, a beautiful plainish brown breast extending down and the wings were a distinctive marking, not like the Herrings)
Common Merganser (one, a drake way in the background)
Common Goldeneye
Ruddy Duck (one)
Coot
Mallard
Brewer's Blackbird
Starling
Northern Harrier
Good birding!
Brian
