As mentioned in my last note, due to the conflict with the GSL Bird Festival on May 18-19, I asked for input on whether to go on Friday-Saturday May 11-12, or Friday-Saturday June 1-2. The response has been roughly equal, so I am going to compromise, if you can call it that. We'll do both times. This way, various birding groups can arrange to participate with us on either of the 2 times. Individuals may want to go both times.
More details will be forthcoming, but for now you can put one of the dates on your calendar. Those who can get away on Friday, we'll leave about 7 a.m. from the Salt Lake area, meet in Heber City, then run up into the Uinta Mountains, Flaming Gorge Reservoir, etc., with some possible owling as we come back down for the night in Vernal. This group will visit the Stewart Lake WMA near Jensen, then meet the rest of the groups coming from the Wasatch Front at Ouray NWF at 10 a.m., with Pelican Lake later.
Then, 3 weeks later, we will do essentially the same thing, maybe with better results in the mountains due to our former recon. Owling, again, is a definite probability. There is also the possibility of seeing nesting Purple Martins in the Uintas. And, we can see which of the times is best for certain birds and for any mosquito problem.
