I made stops in or at Salem, Deer Creek reservoir, Midway, Jordanelle
reservoir, Francis, and Kamas today. None of the winter birds I was
looking for were around, but the winter birds one may reasonably expect
to find were present. I was surprised to see that the two reservoirs are
still nearly 100% ice-free, although I doubt that will remain the case
for much longer. Didn't see any straggling loons. Best birds of the day
were an American dipper standing on the Provo river ice in Francis, a
lonely western grebe on Jordanelle, a common merganser on Salem pond,
belted kingfishers at Salem pond and also at Rock Cliff state park, and
a bald eagle in Provo canyon. I suppose I should also mention that I saw
7 Eurasian Collared-Doves in Kamas.
