Hello all,

Though I know the likelihood of the one of the below Least Terns being spotted in Utah is remote, you never know and it would help research, soooo...

Birders,

Please forgive any crosspostings you may receive on this.
Information is being requested on any colored plastic leg bands seen on LEAST TERNS.
LETE's are listed both federally and state as an endangered species.

Frances Bidstrup, Point Reyes Bird Observatory's (PRBO) information collector on Snowy Plover banding and migration for many years, has recently taken on the job of collecting information on LETE leg band sightings.
If any such bands are sighted, please report them to:

Frances Bidstrup
email: francesbid at directcon.net

The usual way to report leg bands is:
Bird's left leg - top color, bottom color : Bird's right leg: top color, bottom color
Thus an acceptable reporting formula Red Pink : Orange Yellow
translates as
Bird's left leg - red band over pink band
Bird's right leg - Orange band over Yellow band.

Also needed: Date, time, total number of terns in group, adults and juveniles (if possible), a reasonably detail location, and any unusual behavior.

I hope everyone saves this email and sends their info to Frances.

Santa Monica, Ca
