This beautiful bird flew into our front window this morning, in Pleasant
Grove. At first I thought it was a female American Goldfinch, but it
seemed too big for that, at 6 1/2" long. After looking in the Kaufman
bird book and having a friend look, we decided it's a female Western
Tanager. We could tell that the beak was too long for a goldfinch, and
thought it might be a female Bullock's Oriole, but it seemed too small
for that.
What we used to ID it as a Western Tanager was the shape of tail, size,
and wing bars.
I've attatched 2 photos.
Did we get it correct?
