Today while hiking up Neff's Canyon I saw a small flock of about 6 or so EVENING GROSBEAKS. They were in the dead cottonwood at the trail head. last seen flying south, up canyon. This is only the second time I have seen them in the Wasatch. see a photo of them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryanto/3506280680/  Does anyone know what their exact habitat preference is and why the are so rare here? Other interesting birds around were Black-Headed Grosbeak, Lazuli Bunting, Broad-Tailed Hummingbird, and Red Crossbills.
Good Birding
