This conversation is a perfect example of an exchange that would be better suited for BIRDTALK. It was only two weeks ago that this was talked about.

Several years ago I arrived at Provo High School quite early for the
Christmas bird count. As I sat in the parking lot small groups of 2-5
crows flew overhead, all going from the northeast toward the west. It
was a bird count, so I started counting. By the time the other
birders arrived to start our day I had counted over 700 crows passing
over, just a few at a time. It was probably a record year for crows
in the count for our area, but I doubt there were any more in the
county than usual. The crows gather for nocturnal roosts in large
numbers, then disperse during the day. One might have to take this
into account before concluding there is a crow expansion.
Thanks All,
Kevin Colver
