I hope no one supresses bird sightings, please report whatever you see that interests you or others....and I will do the same. My research on raptors in Utah has been helped greatly by the reports of others....the birding community in Utah is wonderful. By the way, there are 2 Fox Sparrows in my yard at the moment. One is a typical interior West type, the other is slightly darker and more heavily marked but may be within the range of interior Western bird expected here. I sent the photos to Sibley today for comments, he replied with an odd Red-tail from Massachusetts.....if he is willing to ask for a second opinion, none of us should hesitate to do so.
Mark Stackhouse is right on the money with all of his recent comments, I say in print:
"At one time or another I have mistaken almost every raptor species for something else"
"...no one can identify every bird they see"
"...identification is an ongoing learning process"
