Not long ago I was also on the receiving end of the type of experience Pomera had. The only real problem with the situation that I had was in HOW the response to my sighting/experience was worded, not with WHAT was said. Not one single birder I've ever met in my 32 years of birding knows all the answers/is right all the time/knows when something seemingly almost impossible in the birding world is going to occur. As has already been mentioned, just put yourself in the place of the person who is reporting the sighting and consider how you'd like to be treated.
This state is filled with many superb and very likeable birders who are happy and willing to share their knowledge and skills with others. Let us all be cautious in how we deal with not only each others' reports but with each others' very human feelings.
Thanks.
