Gary Grubb and I were out and about on a beautiful day Saturday. In the
Farmington Bay area we listed:Canada Goose, Gadwall. American Wigeon,Mallard,
Cinamon Teal,Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Canvasback,
Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Ruddy Duck,
Pied-billed Grebe, American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue
Heron, American Coot, Killdeer, American Avocet, Black-billed Magpie,
European Starling, and Eurasian Collared Dove (about a dozen around the house and
feeding area at the Refuge gate.) Great-tailed Grackles have also been seen
around the feeding area but not by us on this occasion.

Moving on to the Kaysville Ponds we added Redhead Duck and Northern
Flicker.

Then on to the Causeway (very quiet as others have noted) and Garr Ranch. At
the Ranch we listed: Great Horned Owl, Spotted Towhee, Dark-eyed Junco, House
Finch, American Goldfinch, House Sparrow and Varied Thrush. The latter
female bird has now been in the area for several weeks. When we spotted her she
was feeding on the seeds of a Russian Olive tree at the south edge of the
central wooded area.

In other parts of the island and near area we added: Ringed-billed and
California Gulls, Common Raven, American Bald Eagle, American Kestrel, Red-winged
Blackbird, Western Meadowlark, Brewers Blackbird, and Chukar.

It continues to astonish how low the lake level is and how broad the
expanses around the lake.

Hugh
