Jerry - Beautiful photos!! & thanks for sharing.
I can't find the posts on this thread to find out, where did you see these
birds?

I have been following this thread with interest as I commute from Logan to
Salt Lake and usually see between 4 and 5 hawks of some kind around
Farmington area on the Legacy Prkwy.

Today, which is the first day of my weekend, I had to drive my husband to
the airport. On the way home, I took the 500 South exit and did a little
birding around the lagoon. While driving down the frontage road, I saw 2
hawks, one of them looked more like an imm. rough-legged hawk as he had dark
square patches at the elbow on the underwing. BUT he had a mottled, mostly
white head, white from throat to mid belly, a kind of dark blotchy medalion
on his midbreast and a heavily barred or spotted (Couldn't tell for sure)
under belly. But in flight, he was mostly white on the underside except for
the markings described. His rump was also white, extending up the lower
back. He was a beautiful bird.

The other Hawk was also mottled, mostly white head to mid breast, but in
flight, his underside was nearly all white with a small amount of spotting
on the belly and the forward part of the underwing. The photos Jerry has
shared look very similar to this second Hawk I saw today. I saw him on the
North Bound Legacy Prkway just north of the Park Lane exit. I saw the
first hawk just a few feet from the overpass at 500 South as i was heading
north to the lagoon. I hope these directions make sense.

Anyway, these were beautiful birds and I would love to know what kind of
hawk they are. After seeing Jerry's photos, I feel fairly certain the 2nd
hawk is a Harlan's. The other one could be an immature RLhawk. Don't know.

I saw the following at the lagoon:

Song Sparrow 8
Am. Coots 2
Am. Robin 4
Vesper Sparrow ? 1
Double Crested Cormorant 15
Mallard 2
Gulls were numerous
Redwing Blackbird 1, but heard at least 5 others
