Meeting about GSL Minerals lake expansion

Hello all,
Hopefully this was ok to send I felt this was important to get out to the masses.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released a public notice inviting interested parties to attend public information meetings on the proposed Great Salt Lake Minerals Corporation's 75,000 acre expansion of their solar evaporation ponds on the Great Salt Lake.

The Corps is conducting public scoping meetings for the public to view displays, meet project representatives, ask questions, learn about the proposed project and submit written and verbal comments. The Corps will be preparing an Environmental Impact Study on the project.

This is a perfect opportunity to understand what this expansion means to the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem and to help shape the preparation of the EIS.

You can email comments to Jason Gipson at: jason.gipson at usace.army.mil

Possible comment info could include such things as:

8000 additional acres in Bear River Bay will destroy much of the fresh water bay
91,000 additional acres will be added to existing evaporation ponds
540,000 cubic yards of fill will be discharged into Bear River Bay for diking
4.7 million cubic yards of fill for the west side dikes
Unknown changes to water flows caused by diking in Bear River Bay
Additional west side evaporation ponds could cause further lake level decreases
Millions of migratory birds need these areas during fall and spring migration
Impacts and eliminates traditional waterfowl hunting areas
Reduces available waterfowl feed such as Sego Pondweed
Lost lake shore acreage can't be replaced or mitigated
These shallow water areas and mudflats are important feeding and loafing areas for millions of shore birds

I also hope you can PLEASE PASS THIS ON to anyone that may be concerned about the future health of the Great Salt Lake whether they be hunters, birdwatchers, bikers, fishers, ect. We all have a stake in the future of the lake.
Every acre of the lake that is lost is a knife in the back of the birds we enjoy.
