Birded with Jean LeBer and Ray Smith at Farmington this a.m. Lots of folks taking photos of eagles feeding on carp at the south end of the west dike road. Although we didn't see the Western Gull and missed the Mew Gull by a few minutes (Pomera and a birding friend found it then lost it amidst hundreds of California and Ring-billed and we couldn't find it again - drat! - would have been a life bird) I did have a good time watching the gulls feeding along with the eagles at the spot mentioned above. If you want to study juvenile/1st year/etc. Herring Gulls, it's the place to do it - I'm getting to like gulls more and more. While they're busy eating carp they will not pay attention to you and you can study them to your heart's desire. One juvie Herring seemed to be choking on a fish bone and performed some very peculiar maneuvers for us. Lots and lots of eagles. Hope the "exotic" gulls stick around until the 25th when Audubon goes up there for the
end-of-the-month count. I want that Western and that Mew!
