The Harris's Sparrow previously reported along the Jordan River between 3100-3200 South was still present this morning. To make things even more interesting the bird was actually singing when I arrived! It was on the opposite side of the parking lot with 10-15 White-crowned Sparrows that were also making all kinds of noise. I headed across the foot bridge and wandered along the thin dirt trail till I finally pinned the bird to a tree about 75 feet away. He was singing out on a limb and as I started to walk, he jumped higher up the tree and coser to the middle. I stopped and shot a couple shots pretty far off, before starting to walk again. I didn't even get within 50 feet before it took off and flew further down the bank. I opted to leave it alone and head out.
A couple distant shots are here:
