I got to enjoy 2 of the scoters on the causeway, the Black and the
White Winged. (Thanks, Eric!) The long-tailed duck was also a good
find. Should have stuck around another couple of hours for the Surf.
There were numerous American Pipits calling by the bridge closest to
the island.
At the Kaysville ponds, there were 4 Hooded Mergansers - 1 male and 3
females. Other ducks included American Wigeon, Gadwall, Ring-necked
Duck, Lesser Scaup, Northern Shoveler, and Mallard (of course).
Glover Lane in Farmington had a smattering of ducks, mostly Shovelers,
coots, several Pied-billed Grebes, and a Belted Kingfisher. There was
also a late Yellow-headed Blackbird in with a flock of hundreds of
Red-winged Blackbirds, Brewer's Blackbirds, and Starlings (of course).
A Utah day with scoters, a Long-tailed Duck, and Hoodies is definitely
a good day.
