Utah Birders,

I was Portland, Oregon over the weekend. There was a tree that had
little seed pods of some kind about two inches long that looked like the ends of
cattails. The tree was frequented with little birds about the size of
wrentits. Their throats and breasts were pale. I could not see any bars on their
breasts. They had no wing bars. I never noticed that they had cocked
tails. The males had darker heads. The closest I can come to identifying them is
a wrentit. They were very active little birds and hardly sat still. However
I observed one of their nests. It was a long suspended bag like those made
by an oriole. I saw them come and go from it frequently and go inside as
well, so it clearly was one of their nests.

If they are not wrentits, what are they? Does anyone know if wrentits
make nests like I described?

    Dennis
