[Birdnet] Pelican-Ouray (Uintah Basin)

We ran over to the refuge for a couple of hours this morning. Pelican Lake
and the Green River are still mostly iced up, but there is some open water
both places, so I'm guessing the ice will go by next week. At Pelican Lake
there was open water on the east shore near the road, and lots of Canada
geese were drinking and head-dipping, just enjoying the water. The fields
between Pelican and Ouray Refuge-especially the corn stubble- had lots more
Canadas and a fair number of Sandhill cranes. At the Refuge we drove the
auto loop then on out to the fish hatchery. The roads are nearly dry and in
good condition. In a pocket of open water on the Green we saw a few
Pintail, Mallard, and Green-winged teal. Raptors included about a dozen
Bald eagles, maybe five Golden eagles, Northern Harrier, Rough-winged,
frequent Redtails. Also crows, ravens, juncos, robins, and a Loggerhead
shrike. Back in Vernal, there was a nicely-marked Rough-winged hawk on 5th
north in the big cottonwood between the bridge and the dump.
