Its been a while since I have reported any of my sighting(since Marc quite doing the bird line) but I think its time to quite being selfish and rejoin the discusion. Yesterday I birded the wetlands in Davis and Weber county, looking for signs of spring(I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready for it). First I went to Farmington bay WFMA. More of the ice had thawed out last week, only to be refrozen by the cold this past weekend, So there wasn't a lot going on.The gate at egg island was lock too, so I couldn't go looking for Bewicks Swans at the end of the road. The only thing of note was a DARK PHASE Red Tailed hawk along Glovers lane, just east of the entrance to the WFMA. Then I went to the Kaysville ponds were I saw several HOODED MERGANSERS mixed in with Canvasbacks, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Ducks and the usual Mallards and Coots. None of the Canada Geese looked like "lessers" or "hutchinsii" to me. Then I went to Ogden Bay WFMA were I saw
several DOUBLE CRESTED CORMERANTS, at least 4 pairs of SANDHILL CRANES, and numerous Tundra Swans, One of which had a lot of Yellow on the bill, so it might have been a BEWICKS SWAN, and one flock having at least one TRUMPETER SWAN mixed in that I heard, but I didn't get visual verification. Just south of the south entrance to Ogden Bay, I saw 2 ROSS"S GEESE mixed in with a flock of several hundred Canada's feeding in a corn field. Another pair of SANDHILL CRANES was with them. Then I went west on 12th street(SR 39) to little mountain, and saw a flock of Tundra Swans in a large puddle next to the road, so I stopped to get some photos. Some of the Swans looked like TRUMPETER SWAN to me, but its so hard to tell with out hearing them. One of my Photos has a Swan that looks to me a lot like a TRUMPETER SWAN, so I'm asking for some expert opinions. I'm Not quite sure how to make a link though, so here is the address of my photo on Flickr.
