Hi,
Several years ago I had a Bullock's Oriole trying to get a drink out of one
of my Perky-Pet hummingbird feeders. I only saw it once. I bought a couple of
oriole feeders and every spring for a few years I had one up. No takers. This
Sunday I again saw an oriole trying to get a drink out of the same feeder. I
took off one of the bee guards and it stayed all day. I put up one of the
oriole feeders and the orange color did not appear to make any difference. It
still went to the hummingbird feeder. When they(now have a juvenile male and
female) land on the Perky-Pets, they shake out a few drops of sugar water and
turn upside down to drink it. I put up a grape jelly feeder and two orange
halves, but neither one has tried it yet. They still prefer the hummingbird
feeders. I will try a different oriole feeder.
I just watched the young male feeding the female. I am not sure if the
female is a juvenile, but she is fluttering her wings to be fed.
Jack
