[Birdnet] Rare birds on my cell phone

I have enjoyed the two separate lists, Birdnet and Birdtalk. I subscribe to both and love to read all the posts, rare or common. I get it all in my e-mail but my phone is only subscribed to Birdnet.

This won't appeal to everyone but I thought a few of you 'chasers' that are not already aware of this may be interested. - For about four years now I have had my cell phone signed up to Birdnet. I know a few others also do this. As soon as someone posts a rare bird on birdnet I get a text on my phone. I found it comes in very handy. I'm not always at my computer to see if something new has come in. I may get a text and learn of a bird before I go to bed or before I leave for a day of birding and can change my plans rather than finding out too late. I can be down in Washington County with no computer access and learn of a good bird being seen in the area or be updated on a bird still hanging around. I can even send a text to birdnet from my phone to get the word out instantly if I ever find anything really spectacular. I know not everyone has cell phones or uses the texting feature but this has the potential of getting everyone instant information on a rare bird as soon as someone sees it. To subscribe I just sent a text to birdnet-subscribe at utahbirds.org. If you ever want to unsubscribe birdnet-unsubscribe at utahbirds.org. I use verizon and am not sure how this works with other providers.
