Hi All,

We continue in the single-digits-above to double-digits-below-zero range.but
the days are now getting noticeably longer!

Our first bird for 2008: right at sunrise on January 1st, Cliftia looked out
the kitchen window and said "come look at this!" A Northern shrike was
sitting in the cottonwood by the feeder. That is the first Northern for our
yard.a good way to start a birding year!

We still have the lone Mountain chickadee, one to two scrub jays (usually
one), one or two Lincolns sparrows, at least one Song sparrow, a few
magpies, two N. flickers, lots of juncos, White-crowned sparrows (still the
pale-lored), American and Lesser goldfinches, house finches, house sparrows,
and red-winged blackbirds.

Most of the local waters are frozen over (although not Flaming Gorge), so
things are slow in the waterfowl department right now. Yesterday afternoon
two Bald eagles were sitting in a cottonwood in Jensen.

Off to town now in a truck to refresh the bird seed supply.

Clay and Cliftia
