Hello Deedee and others,

I agree with you and Kris that this is indeed a Dunlin. Kris did a nice job
describing why and eliminating other possible species. Very nice find!
They do show up very rarely in the Great Basin in the winter. I recall
Steve Summers and others finding one during the Cedar City CBC (Quichapa
Lake, Iron Co.) a few years back, and there have been up to four individuals
wintering at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve in southern Nevada (Clark
Co.) the last several years.

Very nice find and great job getting photos to document your find as well.
I hope to see you again this year at the St. George Winter Bird Festival in
a few weeks.

Regards,

Rick

  Hi All,
Please look at the photos Milt posted and weigh in with your opinion of
the bird's ID. Three of us went back to the site (Jordan River Parkway in
Lehi, Utah County, accessed from Saratoga Rd and the parking lot for the
model airplane park. Walked north, but saw only the snipes and Killdeer our
bird had been traveling with. Also saw Mountain Bluebirds and pipits. Nice
area.
  thanks.
  Deedee
