We've been keeping track of redwings this year.there have been 2-15 showing
up every day or two since I started keeping track on 1/13/2007.flocks have
gotten up to 25-30 occasionally in winter, especially at the onset of cold
snaps. We noticed the males starting to color up last week. Over the
years, I'd put the local date for when the males are highly obvious for both
coloring and behavior at the last week in February.
We recorded Song sparrows (1 to 2 each) around during all of 2007 and at
least one is still here.. We noticed Lincoln's sparrows specifically in
April 07, through December 07, and through the first half of January 08, but
not since.
I should point out that typically we only pay attention occasionally on
weekday evenings, and off-and-on for any weekends that we happen to be home.
Often I won't notice a particular species or individual for three or four
days, and think it has left, only to see it again later that same day.
