Dennis Shirley and I just returned from a great trip to San Juan county and
yesterday's Bluff Christmas Bird Count. I'm still in the process of
compiling data so a full report will follow in a day or so. In the interim,
the following observations were made:

- a pair of white-winged doves was sighted near Cemetery Hill in Bluff
yesterday. The birds were again located this morning and photographed.

- a white-throated sparrow was spotted yesterday at Jim Hook's feeders at
Recapture Lodge in Bluff. The bird was again observed this morning.

- a flock of at least seven great-tailed grackles was seen flying over Main
Street near 200 South in Moab at about 4:30 pm this afternoon. The presence
of this specie in Moab may not be a great revelation to those fortunate
enough to live there. But this is the first time I've ever seen them there,
and this note is, as far as I know, the first printed report of their
presence in Grand County. They were also observed in Bluff during the CBC
and have been a constant presence in that locale for the last three years.
They're not as quick at it as the Eurasian-collared doves, but they're
spreading.

Season's Greetings to All!
