Yesterday I was doing my Project Feeder Watch count for Cornell University. It was a good day because we had so much snow the last two days. As I was checking trough the birds feeding on the ground, what to my wondering eyes should appear? A WHITE THROATED SPARROW! I stood up and Cheered! Wow! a new yard bird! I watched that bird all afternoon, checking through all my bird guides to make sure. I tried to get a picture through my scope with my digital camera. I got some real poor ones, and I never could get the white throat. Just profiles. I am still trying today, but it hasn't returned. There are two other song sparrows, one which has lost his tail feathers and looks like a tennis ball. I wonder what his story is?
This is not a life bird for my list which is up to 504 North Am. and not the first Utah White Throat. My Utah list is at 332. If you are in the least interested. Tim, Dennis, Mark, etc. get that many Utah birds in a year. By the way, I can't remember what my yard list is at. I guess I will do so serious recounting. It's been a long time for a new yard bird.
The sparrow made me very happy.
Keep on birding,
