Hello,
I hope everyone is enjoying the spring. Migration seems to be in full spring
with many new arrivals. This afternoon (4/24) I photographed a Zone-tailed
Hawk along the Santa Clara River on the Shivwits Reservation (Washington
County). I watched the hawk for nearly an hour as it moved along the river
and nearby bluffs from the Shem Bridge upstream to nearly the northern
Shivwits boundary. I managed to get some photos and I will send a few to
Milt for use by the records committee and to post as 'hotline photos'. Also
there has been a Zone-tailed Hawk along the lower end of the Oak Grove Road
(mostly in the vicinity of the old gravel pit); it has been seen fairly
regularly since late March.
If anyone is headed up to Zion N.P. to enjoy the spring migration there are
at least three Painted Redstarts singing on territory from just below the
Temple of Sinawava upstream along the Riverside Walk.
Enjoy the spring,
Rick Fridell
