Just to tell you that spring is almost here despite the snow on the
ground. I saw 7snowy plovers on the ISSR this morning, along with 20+
willets and 200+ avocets. Also saw 5 Wilson's phalaropes and 2 least
sandpipers. I only had time to visit 3 of my 9 ponds, so maybe I'll
have more shorebirds tomorrow! Also 1,000's of ducks, eared grebes (on
the same pond as the snowies), geese, and coot. 100's of yellow headed
blackbirds were feeding on bugs on the ground (mainly because the wind
was blowing so hard I think the bugs were sticking close to the ground).
The ISSR is private property so I can't let everybody in - I think there
are still spaces for the GSL Bird festival field trips
(greatsaltbirdfest.com) for a tour. I don't mean to tease everyone with
bird reporting when you can't chase them, I just thought some may want
to know the birds are moving in.
All the best birding,
Ann
