Hello,
This evening (9/25) I saw a flock of 5 Clark's Nutcrackers near Quail Creek
State Park. I saw the birds from SR-9 flying north towards Quail and the
water treatment plant. I was able to track them down and took several
photos of a Clark's Nutcracker perched in a tamarisk, an odd combination for
these typically, high elevation species. This is the fifth incidence in the
last month (that I'm aware of) of a Clark's Nutcracker at an unusual low
elevation location, and the first time I've seen more than one individual.

Also of potential interest, on 9/22, I took a photo of a Merlin along 400
South in Hurricane. The most surprising thing about the Merlin was that it
was of the Pacific or 'Black' Merlin subspecies, only the third I've seen in
Washington Co.

Take care,

Rick Fridell
