At 10:15 this morning, I received a phone call from Bob Lawson who reported that
a LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH was at his feeder in Dammeron Valley, yet again. Bob
took some pictures of this bird and although there is no way to be certain (and
it seems unlikely) it appears to be a different bird based off the head
markings. The last bird was last seen on March 31st, 154 days ago. Albeit
quite unbelievable, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that if it is the
same bird, it has simply been moving around in the general area this entire
time.
Colorado had its first LAGO documented early this summer, and the bird was seen
on and off at least through the end of July, of course a steady stream of
listers were visiting almost daily to look for the bird.

Dammeron Valley is located just off of highway 18 northwest of St. George. Bob
was a very generous host in allowing birders to visit his home this spring, and
has said it would be okay for those to visit again, as long as they write in
advance and ask permission to be there. Just showing up is not okay. Bob can
be reached by email at: boblaw at infowest.com

For those who may try for this bird, know that it was not regularly visiting
Bob's feeders. From the initial sighting it was 9 days before the bird was
seen again, and even with birders present for 3 days, it was only seen twice
for a brief period of time, so be patient and attentive. And here we are 5
months later!!! Bob is one lucky Goldfinch Guy!

Cheers
