What a difference a day can make. Dennis Shirley and I visited River
Lane at about 8 a.m. this morning. We saw about 30 species in two hours,
roughly half of which were not observed when I visited yesterday. Best
sightings included an osprey fly-over, an ash-throated flycatcher -
possibly the same one Tuula mentioned a few days ago, a red-naped
sapsucker, and a mixed kettle of warblers and chickadees which included
yellow, yellow-rumped, orange-crowned, Virginia's, black-throated gray,
and Nashville warblers, which were keeping company with American
goldfinches and Brewer's sparrows. As yesterday there were numerous
common nighthawks. They were downright - well, common. And the trees
were alive with western tanagers.
