General Waterbird Survey

The best time to see the cranes is mid-morning to mid afternoon - oddly
enough.  But the best time to see the elk is before sunrise.  The following
birds were seen within the survey route:

Green-winged teal   120
Northern shoveler   79
Northern pintail   59
American wigeon   2
Ruddy duck   29
Ring-necked duck   31
Bufflehead   12
Lesser scaup   5
American coot   378
Sandhill crane   252
Pied-billed grebe   7
Eared grebe   6
Western grebe  1
Red-tailed hawk   4
American kestrel   1
Northern harrier   4
