What a gorgeous day!!! I headed out of Logan by the Valley Hwy and stopped
at the marshes for a look at some birds I caught out of the corner of my eye
as I was driving. They turned out to be gulls, but I got some artsy photos
of the marshes. I then went to BRMBR and saw 2, possibly 3 birds of the
same species, solitary hunters, I'm still trying to ID. I need to squirrel
around with this one for a bit. Then I noticed my gas tank was on empty, so
I had to end the fun there. I never actually made to the Reserve before I
had to turn back for petrol. I did see two American Kestrels perched on the
fence.

After gtting gassed up, I thought perhaps it was best to just go home. But
when I came up on Mantua Lake I had to stop. I drove around to the east
side of the lake and was very glad that I did.

Downy Woodpecker, 2 (got photos)
American goldfinches 35
Dark-eyed juncos- Oregon and slate mix 50
Black capped chickadees 2
American Kestrel 1

The lake was full of ducks, loons and grebes. The Sun was directly in my
eyes, so I couldn't define any of the lake birds to see what they were, but
I did pick out what I thought were American coots, loons, grebes, mallards,
and possibly some swans. I guesstimate around 2000 birds on the lake. I
need to go back and get a better look. I'll let you know when I get the
photos of the woodpecker and the lake, uploaded.
