Hi All,
We had a Hairy woodpecker and a Stellars Jay for a couple of days the end of
October, more recently a Mountain chickadee visit, and a flock of bandit
Bohemian waxwings showed up for about two hours on 11/16, staying just long
enough to efficiently strip off all the crabapples. The mallards finally
left the pond below our place after it had been dry several weeks. The
basic bird load at our place right now includes a dozen House sparrows,
several pair of House finches, occasional ravens, a few White-crowned
sparrows (pale lores), a dozen or more juncos (mostly Oregon and
Slate-colored), a few pine siskins, several magpies, at least two Northern
flickers, five resident (this year first time) Eurasian collared doves, one
(so far) Western scrub jay, and about a mixed flock of about 60 American and
Lesser goldfinches, most of which are in motion at any given time. There
are periodic depredations by deer and by raccoons, who try to rip the
feeders down. Our cumulative yard list is incompletely entered-but at
least 106, and the 2007 list currently at about 85.
We ran over to Pelican-Ouray about a week and a half ago.in addition to
Diane's fine Ouray report, I can add that on 11/12 we saw a few Common
Goldeneye, a Bald eagle (and another at Pelican), one American pipit, a
flock of Horned larks, Marsh wrens, Black-capped chickadees, Red-winged
blackbirds, Northern flickers, Brewers blackbird, Mountain bluebirds,
goldfinches, Pinyon jays, and European starlings.
