After reading private posts from Kristin Purdy and Mark Stack House, (who
both gave some excelllent comments about hawks vs falcons), I have to change
my mind. Kristin suggested either a Cooper's hawk or a sharp shinned hawk.
So I looked at the bird guide on Utah Birds.org and based on the face (when
it perched iin my tree, it turned it's head so I could see the yellow
triangle at the beak's base and the dark, curved beak) and I have to
conclude it was a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK. This little sweetheart has come to
my yard almost every day this past week. Twice he perched in my crab apple
tree, but I have also seen something perched on a pole. This, however could
be one of our resident American Kestrels. Anyway, thanks for the excellent
tips. I learned a new bird! yippeeee!!

thanks to all for your excelllent replies!!
