The Salt Lake Birder's field trip today (31 Mar) to the Greater-Sage Grouse lek and other areas in Morgan and Summit County turned out well. Lots of grouse (35+). Many just a few feet away. Other highlights seen were Common Loons (12+, several loons seen in flight and their mesmerizing call heard frequently. A Bald Bald Eagle "aerial diving" for the loons was an interesting site.), Common Goldeneye, and all three merganser species at East Canyon Reservoir (Common, Red-breasted, and a female Hooded); Canyon Wren on the way to Porterville; Lewis Woodpeckers at Porterville; Ring-necked Ducks, Lesser Scaup, and Bufflehead at the water treatment plant in Hennifer; and an Osprey at the nesting platform west of Echo Reservoir, Coalville. Sandhill Cranes were see in almost all locations. At total of 53 species seen.
Thanks,
Stephen
