Took a quick trip out to Glover Lane in Farmington this morning. There
were about 300 new houses that had sprouted up in the past 3 weeks (not
really that many), but there were also some nice arrivals in the avian
department. I saw my first Cattle Egret of the year by the pond at the
end of Glover Lane. There continues to be a good assortment of
waterfowl, including a lot of Canvasbacks. The Great Blue Herons were
hauling in nesting material, and there was one lonely Bald Eagle in the
tree at Farmington Bay WMA. Yellow-headed Blackbirds are also back. It
appears that a lot of vegetation has been removed in the UTA property
where the new road has been cut through. I hope there will actually be
some bird habitat left when all of the "improvements" have been made.
