This morning (03/11) Dave Slager and I relocated the 2 BLACK SCOTER
reported by Rick Fridell 2 weeks ago at Sand Hollow State Park in
Washington County. The birds were seen along the west dam about 400
yards from the parking lot. One bird had a distinctive yellow knob
while the other was a juvenile or female bird. We attempted to get
closer but a boat flushed the birds and we were not able to relocate them.
Other birds of note in Washington County this weekend.
1 - Harris's Sparrow 2 miles north of Lytle Ranch 03/09 in the Beaver
Dam Wash. Likely same bird form the ranch in search of food?
5 - Caspian Tern at Quail Creek 03/10 in the evening. The birds were
not seen today. This seems like a very early record.
1 - Ross's Goose at Quail Creek 03/11 around noon. With 2 Snow Geese
and 200 gulls.
1 - prairie Merlin in Washington Fields 03/10.
In Millard County at Clear Lake WMA we found a swan sleeping on the
bank. IT was collared with a black band and yellow letters/numbers.
Likely a Trumpeter, but not sure of the origin.
Good Birding
