On the Antelope Island Causeway this morning, I located a "baker's
dozen" of Semipalmated Plovers. They are really cute little buggers,
and yes, they were eating little bugs. I was trying to make some of
them into Snowy Plovers, but with orange legs and a solid black
neckband, that wasn't really possible. They were on the south side of
the causeway, just before the first bridge, in with a group of Western
Sandpipers. On the north side of the road in the same area was a
Long-billed Curlew with two Willets. Two more curlews were on the south
side between the last bridge and the island. Phalaropes were everywhere
as others have reported.
