Hello,

Today (7/11) I saw the first southbound shorebirds heading through
Washington County. The pond in Fort Pearce Wash below River Road (St.
George, Washington Co.) had a nice variety of birds, including 12
White-faced Ibis, 10 American Avocets, 45 Killdeer, 1 Western Sandpiper, 2
Least Sandpipers, and 3 Wilson's Phalaropes. At Sand Hollow State Park
there was 2 Western Sandpipers and a Caspian Tern.

In case anyone's looking for a high elevation trip this weekend to escape
the heat, this is a great time of year to spend some time around Lava Point
(Zion NP) and Kolob Reservoir. There are a couple of dead cows in the Kolob
Meadows just north of the Kolob Creek road crossing, and numerous vultures
and up to 15 California Condors are often visible in the meadows and easily
viewed from the main road. Also this is a great spot for viewing raptors
including Northern Goshawks, Sharp-shinned, Red-tailed, and Zone-tailed
Hawks, American Kestrels, and Peregrine Falcons.

Best Regards,

Rick Fridell
