After the SL Birders field trip this morning (great looks at Winter
Wren in City Creek Canyon!), I headed to Farmington Bay. I was scouting
for Bald Eagles, since some friends had requested that I take them
there next weekend. Bald Eagle count: Zero. I did see a couple of
things that I didn't expect - a large number of Great Blue Herons, a
Black-Crowned Night Heron, and a Greater Yellowlegs. There was also a
Short Eared Owl cruising the main dike and a Downy Woodpecker in one of
the small trees that line the road as you head west.
