An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was found at Lee Kay Ponds (Salt Lake
Co.) this morning by Steve and Cindy Summerfield. We also observed the
bird. It was seen at the west end of the main pond. A second winter
Glaucous Gull was on the westernmost pond. The "thaylandic" gull was
also on the west pond, and was flying around quite a bit, giving us nice
views of the wings and tail. There seemed to be too much of a brown tail
band for an Iceland Gull, so the four of us non-experts think it's
probably a Thayer's Gull (a very light one).
The Western Gull was not seen.

We did a circuit of Antelope Island late this afternoon, finding a
Cooper's Hawk (Ladyfinger Point), a Merlin (Visitor Center), two
Short-eared Owls and a Prairie Falcon (Bridger Bay Campground), numerous
Northern Harriers, and a Burrowing Owl. The Burrowing Owl was halfway
between the visitor center road junction and the RV dump station, about
20 yards east of the main road, and was sitting on what looked like a
half buried wooden crate (makeshift burrow?).
Approaching the causeway entrance/exit station, another Short-eared Owl
flew over, and we watched a Barn Owl capture a small rodent and fly off
with it's dinner.
