Tim and Kris have already reported most of what we saw today, so I'll
just second a few sightings and add a couple of others.
After checking Lee Kay Ponds, we headed north to Beus Park in Ogden,
where we saw the resident Western Screech Owl and Wood Ducks.
                                                 Next, Antelope Island.
At Garr Ranch, we saw 2 Virginia Rails at the spring, the Townsend's
Solitaire, the Merlin (thanks all!), and a Barn Owl in the silo. We saw
Paul Higgin's Burrowing Owl along the Garr Ranch road, as well as a
Northern Shrike. A Prarie Falcon was seen flying below the east side of
the AI Visitors Center. Another Northern Shrike was near the entrance to
Ladyfinger Point parking lot. We also missed the Bewick's Wren, but did
see the Canyon Wren and 4 Rock Wrens, as well as several Chukar at
Ladyfinger Point. On the Causeway we saw many American Pipits and one
Horned Lark, but no Snow Buntings. We also spotted the female Barrow's
Goldeneye and Surf Scoter at the first bridge. A Great Horned Owl was in
the rafters of the barn just east of the entrance kiosk.
A visit to the Kaysville Ponds turned up a female Hooded Merganser (no
male).
We hit a goose trifecta plus one at the Oakridge Country Club (golf
course) in Kaysville. Besides a couple hundred Canada Geese, there was a
Cackling Goose, a blue-phase Snow Goose, and a Greater White-fronted
Goose. A Belted Kingfisher rattled back and forth several times. All
were seen from Shepard Lane, which is reached by continuing south on the
road from the Kaysville Ponds.
