.I arrived at Glover Lane about 7:30 am and was able to quickly locate the longspur, only waiting for more light. Around 7:45am I began photographing the beautiful bird. The bird, like last night, was very cooperative.
I used my 600mm lens with a converter so I would allow the bird plenty of distance. I photographed for about 10 minutes when a Kestrel came in going right after the longspur. The Kestrel missed but the longspur exited to the west, I thought he was gone for good.
A few minutes later I was pleasantly surprised to have him return. He landed in the same area. I gave him a little time to calm down and I started photographing again. It was interesting to watch the bird "hunker" down, and although feeding, kept a sharp eye out for the Kestrel. The kestrel flew over again and the longspur tried to stay hidden in the grass and off the embankment. The Kestrel was out looking for him.
As Bruce said, he showed up around 8:00 and I was able to get more photographs. A Bald Eagle flew over around 8:30am and the longspur took of in panicked flight heading west over the pond. I waited a little while but he never returned.
Here are a few images I got this morning
