I slipped away early from work and tried to see if I could get some Long-tailed Duck images on the causeway, this afternoon. There were several long-tail's near the last bridge before the island(long-tail bridge). One bird immediately caught my attention, the head markings were like a typical winter female. However, the body was a beautiful dark mahogany. I could not determine any other marking on the body, What you see in the images is about all I could see of the belly, it could be marked, I couldn't tell.

I've included a typical winter female(flying) for comparison, along with a male I also got today.

Am I just up in the night?...could be, I misidentified the Rough-legged Hawk the other day. Thanks Jerry L. and Kris.
