This morning, Glenn Barlow, Steve Carr, Larene Wyss, David Wheeler and I trekked
down to Cedar City to look for the cormorant. We were joined by a local fellow
whose name I didn't happen to catch as well as Jack Binch. We spent 4 hours
(from 7:30-11:30am) scanning the lake and endless garble of coots in hopes of
spotting the bird, but in the end it wasn't meant to be. We did see at least 3
Common Tern (there may have been many more), several Black Tern, 1
Black-bellied Plover, 5 Baird's Sandpiper, and a few other shorebirds. David
and I had a Peregrine Falcon a few blocks away from the lake. Also of note
were the numerous Clark's Grebe with young, which Rick mentioned to me, and
seems to be quite far south for this species nesting.
Good Luck to anyone who may still try for the bird this weekend.
Cheers
