I received a phone call from Rick Fridell around 11:30 this morning reporting a
1st year NEOTROPIC CORMORANT at Quichipa Reservoir/Lake just west of Cedar
City. He told me the bird was sitting with Double-crested Cormorants on a
fence line in the water along the west shore of the lake. Rick was headed to
the west desert but plans on stopping back by the lake tomorrow evening to
check on the bird.

The lake is almost completely surrounded by private property however there is an
overlook where Rick initially spotted the bird from. Rick noted that all the
DCCO were also 1st year birds makign for a nice comparison. For those
interested in trying for the bird note the small size, in some cases 2/3 to 1/2
the size of the much larger cousin.

To get to Quichipa take HWY 56 west out of Cedar City to 6300 West (its several
miles). Turn LEFT and follow this road 1.4 miles to 1400 South. Turn RIGHT
and follow the road to the dead end which is also the overlook on to the lake.

I think this is all the pertinent info Rick passed my way. Also present were an
adult Bald Eagle and a juvenile Eagle sp., as well as Common and Black Terns.

Cheers
