A huge thanks to Kris Purdy who called me around 9:30 this morning as I was
reaching the summit of Leidy Peak in search of White-tailed Ptarmigan. Kris
found a beautiful adult RUDDY TURNSTONE in breeding plumage and knew this was
my arch nemesis bird! I got Kris's message around noon and Colby and I hit the
road back to Salt Lake. We made it to Bear River a little after 6:00pm and
pulled up to teh spot Kris had described and immediately saw the brightly
patterned bird which was quite stunning. Neither Colby or I had seen this
species in Utah previously and it was a beauty.

The location for those interested in trying for the bird tomorrow:
At Bear River NWR, instead of following the tour loop counterclockwise around,
take the left turn past the restrooms and follow it down the east dike to the
southeast corner and the observation tower. From here turn around and drive
back north about .1 mile to the bridge with the yellow and black markers. The
bird was directly west of this bridge about 75 yards out.
We also had one or two ibis that looked like 1st year Glossy Ibis:
