Hello,

Just in case anybody heading to Fish Springs NWR to chase the fine birds
observed there lately wants to make a side trip. Red-shouldered Hawks have
been regularly observed in northern Snake Valley since at least 2000. I
suspect there are one or two pairs nesting around Callao (southwest of Fish
Springs), as immature birds have been observed in late summer / fall in
several recent years. These birds can often be observed in the Russian
Olives along the main road, and in the fields and pastures, particularly on
the west side of Callao. Red-shouldered Hawks are somewhat regularly
observed south of Callao in Snake Valley as well (Callao CCC Camp, Trout
Creek, Miller Spring, etc.) all the way south to the Gandy area, in Millard
County.

Best of luck and keep turning up those good West Desert birds!
